Introduction

Coexist Initiative is a multi-global award winning Kenyan NGO working across Kenya and the entire East Africa region to promote gender transformation, human rights and social justice. In collaboration with Mululu Consultants, a local Kenyan firm with a true African heritage who provide high- valued consulting services that assist clients expand their work and reach, will host the inaugural East Africa and Southern Gender Based Violence Summit in Nairobi Kenya.

Violence against women and girls in Kenya as it is in other parts of the world is an aftermath of profound social systems that advance and proliferate it. Attitudes that generate traditions of terror and encourage the use of violence as enshrined in patriarchy, negative masculinity and the entire negative socialization process remain ever present. Gender based violence is a manifestation of unequal relations between women and men with roots in deeply entrenched social, economic and political informal conventions based on perceived men and boys “privilege” at the expense of girls and women’s vulnerability

Objectives

  1. Raise competencies and capacities around engaging men, boys and communities around GBV programming in general as well as the elimination of harmful traditional practices specifically.

  2. Establish intra-country and cross country GBV networks and synergies.

  3. Explore and dialogue around emerging trends and best practices.

The summit will be coming soon.

The summit will be consultative and interactive while focussing on key issues and current discourse on harmful traditional practices and other forms of gender based violence and how to engage men, boys, traditional leaders and communities.

Target Participants
